Upgrading My Transportation

After driving an old, beat-up car for years, I finally made the decision to upgrade my transportation. I had set aside a little money every month to use as a down payment, and I was ready to make a new car my own. I searched loads of car dealerships in my area, but one business stood out to me in particular. The salespeople were kind and not pushy, and they had a reputation for fair deals. I worked with them to find the right car, and the paperwork was a breeze. This blog is all about upgrading your transportation, and why you shouldn't be afraid to take the plunge.

Towing A Car By Yourself? Read These 2 Tips

Lauri Kivela

If you have to get towed out by another car for whatever reason, you want to make sure that you are doing it safely for you and for everyone involved. There are things that you need to do so that you can get your car where you need it and do it without damage or injury.

Use the Right Tools

You don't want to just grab some random rope from somewhere to pull your car. You want to make sure that you use the right tools. In this case, the right tools are either a tow strap or a tow chain. A tow strap is usually made of some kind of thick webbing, usually nylon or heavy canvas, and has attachments at either end to be connected to the cars. There is generally a way to adjust the straps so that you can take up the slack in between them as necessary. A tow chain is just that, a strong chain with the same kinds of connections to connect to the cars.

Attach to the Right Place

If you are going to tow a car or get your car towed by another car, you want to make sure that you are attaching the strap or chain in the right place. While you might think that attaching the tow device to the bumper would be a good idea, especially since the bumper is so accessible, that is not the smartest place to connect the strap or chain. That's because the bumper can pull right off the car when it is placed under strain, especially the strain that towing would put on it. Instead, you want to make sure that the tow strap or chain is attached firmly to the frame. Only the frame of your car is going to be strong enough to withstand the strain on it. Look under the cars and see if you can find the tow attachment points. They should be fairly close to the ends of the car. Attach the tow straps or tow chains to those points so that the strain goes through the frame of your car. Once you get it attached and start pulling the car, make sure that you stand back as far as you can because that's when the chain or strap starts to take the strain and it could fly off or break at that point and really hurt someone.

If you have to use another car to tow your car, you want to make sure that you do it correctly and safely.  However, the best way to make sure that your car gets towed out safely is to call a tow truck and have them come out and do it for you.
